Head over to the Boesmansgat Sinkhole
If you’re an avid outdoors enthusiast, don’t miss an opportunity to visit this submerged freshwater cave. World diving records have been set at this location, while many have lost their lives. Located 55km outside of Kuruman and featuring a 10km drive into Mount Carmel, travelling to Boesmansgat is filled with sights and sounds. En route to the sinkhole, be sure to keep your eyes peeled for local fauna and flora. Do note, there is an entry fee for the attraction.
Visit the Eye of Kuruman
One of Kuruman’s natural wonders, the Eye (Die Oog in Afrikaans) is a huge attraction in the region. This natural spring forms a small lake in the middle of the small town, providing crystal clear water to the area. Grab a bite to eat at the local café, or take the kids out to enjoy the park nearby. Remember to bring your camera along to take pictures of this one-of-a-kind oasis in the hot Kalahari.

Birdwatching is a popular hobby in South Africa, and the Northern Cape is home to a wide selection of bird species. More specifically, the Kalahari is home to around 40 species of raptor, a delight for any bird enthusiast. The reserve features 115 species of birds, so be sure to bring along your binoculars and camera.

Located 43km away from Kuruman, this tourist attraction is an ideal stop on your road trip through the region. This Natural Heritage Site is a must-see for any budding archaeologists, young and old. The cave is popular with locals and tourists alike, with indigenous groups collecting water from the cave for rituals and spiritual purposes. Explore the area with an experienced guide, and spend a day learning about this incredible attraction.
Spend an afternoon at the Moffat Mission Station
Co-founded by British missionary Richard Moffat in the 19th century, the mission station has a lot of historical significance to the surrounding area. The station also served as a printing press, where Moffat translated the Bible into Setswana. This was the first time the Bible had been published in an African language. Tourists can visit the church on the premises, browse other historical monuments or pop into the bookshop.
